Unlike most media sources, which rely on traditional ‘foreign correspondents’,
State of the Left is driven by people who are actively involved in the progressive debate in the country they are writing about.

Their task here is to deliver despatches which combine a commitment to progressive values with robust, independent analysis.
Our correspondents include leading policymakers, political advisers, pollsters, political scientists, trade unionists, business leaders and journalists.
State of the Left is co-ordinated from our London editorial hub.

Editor-in-Chief is Matthew Laza, director of Policy Network and a former senior current affairs BBC programme maker.
He works with a team of co-editors: Charlie Cadywould who leads Policy Network’s work on the future of the left; Florian Ranft who leads on European public policy and the future economy and Alex Porter who heads commissioning and communications.
